The Benefits of Working Outside the Home

Working outside the home offers a variety of advantages that can significantly enhance both personal and professional life. Beyond the obvious commute, there are several compelling reasons to consider a workplace environment. Some people, especially millennials have locked in on the idea to work from home. Unless you are a farmer on your own property, then I do not see this a great long choice. I think there are benefits to working outside of where you reside. I have found that I am way more productive working outside of my bedroom or living room. I have to get active, moving, and energetic to get in a state of creativity and production.

First and foremost, a dedicated workspace can foster increased productivity and focus. The separation of work and home life can help individuals establish a clear boundary, reducing distractions and allowing for more efficient task completion. I personally have so much more results because I can tell when something is/or is not separated. When I blend my dwelling area and workspace, the lack of time management and effectiveness becomes evident. Additionally, the structure of a traditional office often encourages a more disciplined work ethic, with set hours and a specific environment conducive to concentration.

Secondly, working outside the home can provide opportunities for social interaction and networking. Offices often serve as hubs for collaboration and knowledge sharing, facilitating connections with colleagues and industry professionals. Professor Galloway mentions this in his advice to young professional men. "Get out of the house as much as you can. There is a correlation to your success, by putting yourself out there. These interactions /networking opportunities can lead to valuable insights, mentorship, and potential career advancement. Furthermore, the social aspect of work can contribute to a sense of belonging and community.

Thirdly, a workplace environment can offer access to essential resources and amenities that may be limited at home. This includes specialized equipment, technology, and support services that can enhance productivity and efficiency. I think it is crucial to see different workplaces so that you can see how other companies operate. I think the number #1 for an individual would be to their own boss, but in your early career days, I think it is productive to enjoy all of the benefits associated with a established profitable company. Soak up everything you can with it's processes so that you can implement it into your own business. Additionally, many offices provide amenities such as break rooms, fitness centers, and on-site childcare, which can improve employee well-being and work-life balance.

Fourthly, working outside the home can help to reduce feelings of isolation and loneliness. Human beings are social creatures, and regular interaction with others can contribute to a sense of belonging and fulfillment. This is a big one for me. Get up and get moving outside of the house. I find that I get so much more done, when I am out the front door. It is mostly a subconscious shift, but it makes my mornings so much more productive. A workplace environment provides opportunities for face-to-face communication and collaboration, which can be essential for mental and emotional health. I would add that it is has been super helpful getting up early, and getting outside of the house. Getting up early has increased my productivity immensly.

Finally, working outside the home can offer a much-needed change of scenery. The daily routine of commuting to and from work can provide a sense of structure and purpose, while the physical change of environment can help to reduce stress and fatigue. It is useful to change your environment. You are a human and not a robot. Additionally, the opportunity to interact with people outside of one's immediate social circle can broaden perspectives and foster a more diverse worldview.
