Like or dislike Dave Ramsey? Regardless of what you think of his advice, the guy is a content/marketing machine.
Growing up I used to hear background noise of Ramsey on one our local radio stations. His show/podcast is syndicated on more than 600 radio stations.
For those who don't know who he is. His message is pretty straight forward: “Don’t spend money you don’t have.” Numerous finance and business thought leaders go to battle for or against his finance/business philosophies. And if someone is familiar with Ramsey, you can usually assign that individual into two different opinion groups.
Group #1 (Ramsey Camp): says “Reduce burn/spend rate, stop using credit cards, avoid any unnecessary spending”. (Majority of Americans would find this advice very useful. It is 2024 estimated that Americans have $1.142 trillion in credit card debt). So it is very difficult to debate against group 1. But are you supposed to reduce burn until you eliminate happy quality of life?
Group #2: argues against Ramsey. They say “Learn to make more money, and overcome debt through income”. Many business owners and entrepreneurs say learn to increase income or start a business. The advice is straightforward, simple, and potentially a roll of the dice. Most individuals don’t have the ambition, desire, endurance, or skillset to become independent businesses operators. What happens if the debt is never conquered?
I really think there is a POWERFUL message in his EXAMPLE, regardless if someone agrees or disagrees with the message.…..
Look at his consistency in promoting a message.
If you showed up for 32 years straight (generating worthwile content), consistently advertising and producing yourself, would you ever need to worry about minimizing every expense and debt? Ramsey is thinking about how he better craft his weekly show. Maybe his example is saying yes "Attack debt, but also be a producer and not a consumer".
Dave has produced a powerhouse brand. Let’s say 10 million active listeners across a year. His simple products range from $79 to $13.99. Assuming a 2% conversion rate at an average product price of $20 per product, that’s $4 million in annual revenue from his content machine. If he can't handle the amount of leads, he can sell the leads for an additional revenue stream. He offers more than just books and also has coaching/services. So the napkin math is a low estimate. His content production has created a revenue stream to where he can tackle any debt or expense.
GOLDEN NUGGET: How can you produce more (specifically content)? What would happen if you consistently shared a message for 32 years straight? Watch more of what Dave does regardless of what he says. How can you get eyes/ears on what you are building/selling. An audience is very valuable in the attention economy. Social media is a very helpful tool for magnifying a great/relatable message. Be more like Dave, put yourself out there. Creating uplifting content/copy will open many doors and multiply your opportunities.
